Common Themes of Media
Part 1: Three Common Themes
-
Challenges
-
Looking at other's websites, they've mentioned challenges that are similar to my own as well as reminded me of many challenges that I do currently face, but have gotten so used to it that I forgot it even was a challenge for me at the beginning. For example, I love reading subtitles because sometimes I missed a few words the actors said or I watch things in a different language. However, sometimes what is being said doesn't match what the subtitles have which makes things difficult. Another common challenge is the growth of AI in media and it's effects.

445/656 Statement
-
We share the similar reasons for why we registered for this class which is mostly because we would like to explore how much media has grown and has been so incorporated in our lives that it's becoming increasingly difficult to go without it. With the constantly changing mediums of media providing differing impacts, it's important to become aware of the effects it causes, both good as well as bad.

Similar Media
-
I noticed that I have some similarities with others in the types of media I consume. For instance, I see some enjoy the same music I do such as Classical, Kpop, and Pop as well as watch similar movies like Crazy Rich Asians or shows like Gossip Girl.

Part 2: Media Revision
-
Rather than revise my media categorization, I was reminded of more media I consume or services I utilize frequently that I'd like to include such as what design tools I use to create media like Canva or devices such as the Nintendo Switch or PS4.

In regards to challenges that I'd like to add, it would be the lack of translated or poorly translated subtitles when watching/reading media originally in other languages. There are many times I'd like to watch an anime or Kpop video or read manhwa/manhua/manga, but since I don't know those languages, I have to rely on what is given to me which is sometimes nothing. I've been trying to teach myself these languages to help myself, however, it's a slow journey.
